The Aomori Hiba is famous for it's use as a building material. It was historically used to build Japanese shrines, Buddhist temples, castles, etc. This is because the wood is corrosion-inhibiting, industrial-strength, antibacterial and insect repelling. ( also relaxing) The natural hiba oil is extracted from the wood waste of over 250 year-old Aomori Hiba wood through water vapor distillation.
