This silk check material is woven in Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture, from thick silk yarn spun in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture. The original thick and bulky silk yarns are wound with thin silk yarns of different colors and arranged in a complex pattern, giving it the look and feel of wool tweed, while being extremely light and pleasant to the touch.
